THE WAR ART OF T. MIYANO

Picture
A collection of 16 full page color plates

The Chinese Revolution of 1911, also known as the Xinhai Revolution, overthrew China’s Qing dynasty, ending over 2,000 years of imperial rule and marking the beginning of China’s republican era. T. Miyano’s vivid depictions continue a tradition of war prints that flourished at the turn of the century. The traditional woodblock technique, however, is replaced with western-style lithography. The works in this collection were printed in Japan in the 1920s and may have been intended for export to China. They are currently held by the Wellcome Library, London.
